House of Puerto Rico San Diego celebrated the grand opening of its cottage museum at the world-renown Balboa Park in San Diego, CA, on Saturday, February, 4, 2006. The opening of the cottage museum is the culmination of a 7-year effort and $230,000 raised with the goal to dedicate a public building in Balboa Park for the purpose of promoting the history, art and culture of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and of Puerto Ricans residing in the mainland United States.
Come to see the cottage which is open to the public every Sunday from noon to 4pm.

Sunday hosts for la casita needed
Now that we have realized our dream of opening our cottage that will highlight our culture, traditions, and history to visitors to Balboa Park from all over the world, we must focus on having people available to host it. Our club has taken a huge step forward and we now need additional help to proceed. Volunteers are needed to host on Sundays that la casita will be open from 12-4 pm. An orientation meeting lasting one hour will be needed prior to hosting.
If you are interested or have further questions, you can contact Joe Carballo, volunteer coordinator, who can be reached at jcarballo@san.rr.com. If you can help and are not yet a member, please view our application on-line. You will be able to meet new people and get reacquainted with old friends. Hosting is fun!
