La Casita Cottage in Balboa Park

Beautiful Balboa Park is home to many museums and is the cultural center of San Diego. (Work on description and reference www.balboapark.org)

....

The House of Puerto Rico San Diego is a member of the House of Pacific Relations (also known as The Cottages). Currently, there are 19 cottages representing various countries, not one representing a Latin country. Being a member of the House of Pacific Relations affords us the opportunity to build a cultural cottage of our own for the purpose of promoting public education regarding the history, art and culture of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and of Puerto Ricans residing in the mainland United States.

............

According to the 1990 U.S. Census there are 131,998 Puerto Ricans in the state of California. There are 12,163 in San Diego County and 5,337 in the City of San Diego. Puerto Rican natives and their descendants have made many contributions to the community in the areas of sports, performing arts, fine arts, education, medicine and the United States armed forces. These contributions will become a permanent exhibit in the cottage.
